In collaboration with the German International Master Craftsman, the CCI – HWK Vocational Training Improvement Project recently conducted a comprehensive training program on plant engineering for vocational school teachers and in-company trainers. Hosted at the DIMO Academy for Technical Skills (DATS), the training aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of participants in plant engineering for sanitary heating and air conditioning systems from 22nd November 2023 – 01st December 2023. For the first time not only, the program trained trainers but the students of DIMO Academy in the PLANT ENGINEERING FOR SANITARY HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING (PESHA). The DATS provided the German standard practical workspace for the program.

The training covered a wide range of topics essential for understanding and working with potable water systems. Participants were introduced to the basics of potable water systems, including general concepts and components of pipe installations. The importance of correct pipe dimensioning and the risks associated with incorrect installation were emphasized to ensure the safety and efficiency of water distribution systems.

One of the key focuses of the training was on potable water hygiene, highlighting the risks and best practices for maintaining water quality. Participants learned about the selection of materials for potable water installations and engaged in exercises on proper thermal insulation to prevent heat loss and ensure energy efficiency.

Practical sessions were an integral part of the training, where participants applied pipe installation methods and learned how to join PVC pipes using advanced sealing methods. The installation of a training environment for drinking water distribution provided hands-on experience in installing pipe systems and performing pressure tests to ensure their integrity.

Technical drawings and reading PI&D (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) were also covered, with exercises designed to enhance participants’ ability to interpret and create technical drawings for pipe installations. The training also delved into pump technology, with a focus on understanding pump curves and datasheets to facilitate proper pump selection and operation.

Maintenance in plant engineering was another crucial aspect of the training, with exercises on designing maintenance plans for pipe systems to ensure their long-term performance and reliability. Water quality monitoring and testing were also discussed, highlighting the importance of regular testing and maintenance to prevent water contamination and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Overall, the plant engineering training conducted by the CCI – HWK Vocational Training Improvement Project was a newly integrated subject area, providing participants with valuable skills and knowledge essential for their roles as vocational school teachers and in-company trainers. The training not only enhanced their technical competencies but also equipped them with the tools to train the next generation of skilled professionals in plant engineering for sanitary heating and air conditioning systems.
